Recruitment is crucial for any organization, as it determines the success and growth of a company. With the advancements in technology, recruitment has also evolved and many companies are turning to Artificial Intelligence (AI), such as chat GPT-3 to assist in the process. However, the question remains: can AI fully replace human recruiters?

The answer is no. While AI can assist in some screening activities, identifying candidates, and help with some more administrative tasks, like writing role descriptions,, there are certain aspects of recruitment that only humans can provide. In this blog post, we will discuss the importance of

  • emotional intelligence
  • cultural fit and,
  • flexibility in recruitment and why AI will not fully replace humans.
There has been a lot of talk regarding Chat-GPT from OpenAI lately. Will it replace the human recruiter?

Why Emotional Intelligence is important in Recruitment:

Recruitment is not just about finding the right candidate for a job, it’s also about building relationships and understanding people. Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand, manage, and express emotions, and it is a crucial aspect of recruitment. According to a study by the Talent Management Institute, emotional intelligence was found to be the number one factor in predicting job performance. Although emotional intelligence in itself has been scrutinized and criticized as a complex capability to measure for recruiters, other personality traits are considered easier to measure and compare. For example, the ability to structure one self-work and problem-solving ability often prove to have a significant impact on job performance. So although AI can assist in identifying candidates who meet the required qualifications and experience, it cannot (yet) fully understand the emotional intelligence of a candidate. A human recruiter can assess a candidate’s emotional intelligence through a number of methods, such as interviews, personality tests, and or assessment exercises. All of these are important for determining whether a candidate will fit into the company culture and team.

Why Cultural Fit is important in Recruitment:

Recruitment also involves understanding the culture and values of a company, which AI is not able to fully grasp (yet). A company’s culture and values are unique and can change over time, and a human recruiter can understand and adapt to these changes. According to a study by the Society for Human Resource Management, 61% of organizations reported that cultural fit is the most important factor when evaluating a candidate. An AI-based recruitment system can only identify candidates who meet the required qualifications and experience, but it cannot understand whether a candidate will fit into the company culture.

Why Flexibility is important in Recruitment:

AI is limited by the data it is trained on. Humans can adapt and make decisions based on new and unexpected information. In recruitment, there may be situations where a candidate does not meet all the qualifications and experience, but has other skills and qualities that make them suitable for the job. A human recruiter can evaluate this situation and make a decision, while an AI-based system may not be able to adapt to this situation. According to a study by the Institute for Corporate Productivity, 85% of companies stated that they are looking for candidates with a mix of hard and soft skills, which AI may not be able to fully assess.

AI will support but not replace the human recruiter:

In conclusion, while AI can assist in the recruitment process, it cannot fully replace human recruiters. The ability to understand and manage emotions, assess cultural fit, and adapt to new and unexpected situations are all important aspects of recruitment that only humans can provide. Studies have shown that emotional intelligence, cultural fit, and a mix of hard and soft skills are key factors in predicting job performance and success. While AI can screen and identify candidates, it is important to remember that recruitment is not just about finding the right candidate for a job, it’s also about building relationships and understanding people. Therefore, while AI can assist in the recruitment process, it should not be used to fully replace human recruiters.
